What Are Control Valves?

Control valves are precision devices that regulate the flow, pressure, or temperature of process fluids. In our applications, they manage steam in pasteurizers and heaters, as well as chilled or hot water in HVAC and CIP circuits. By adjusting the flow rate, control valves maintain process stability and ensure product quality.

Actuation is typically pneumatic or electric, with a positioner ensuring the correct valve opening based on the control signal. The valve body, often made of 304 or 316L stainless steel, must resist corrosion and meet hygienic standards (Ra ≤ 0.8 µm) for food, dairy, and pharmaceutical applications.

How Control Valves Operate

Control valves regulate flow by changing the orifice area through which the fluid passes. The actuator moves the valve plug, ball, or disc according to the control signal, while the positioner ensures precise alignment with the desired setpoint. This enables stable temperature and pressure control even in demanding steam and chilled water applications.

In pasteurizers and heaters, control valves maintain consistent steam injection rates, preventing overheating or under-processing. In chilled water lines, they balance flow to ensure optimal cooling efficiency.
