Edible Oil Processing Lines

Fractionation Production Line

Fanpod designs, supplies, installs and commissions industrial fractionation lines for the controlled separation of edible oil fractions such as olein and stearin. Our scope covers process engineering, crystallization, filtration, utilities, piping, automation, PLC/SCADA integration and start-up support for reliable continuous plant operation.

Process Concept

Controlled Crystallization and Efficient Separation

Fractionation is a physical separation process used to divide oils and fats into fractions with different melting profiles. In palm oil and specialty fat processing, the line is designed to produce liquid olein and solid stearin through accurate thermal conditioning, crystal growth control and mechanical separation.

How the Fractionation Line Works

The process starts with heated feed oil that is prepared in feed tanks and then routed through plate heat exchangers and crystallizers. The cooling profile is controlled carefully to create stable crystals with the required particle size and structure. After maturation, the slurry is sent to the filtration section where solid stearin is separated from liquid olein.

Fanpod’s engineering approach focuses on the balance between product quality, filtration efficiency, utility consumption and plant reliability. Temperature control, agitation, holding time, transfer pumping and filter press operation must work as one coordinated process system.

Fanpod Scope of Work

Fanpod provides complete project execution support from process definition to commissioning. The fractionation package can be delivered as a turnkey solution or as an integrated process island within an existing edible oil refinery.

Operating Sequence

Fractionation Process Flow

The production line is arranged to manage feed preparation, controlled cooling, crystal maturation, mechanical separation and product handling. Each stage affects final olein clarity, stearin quality and filtration performance.

Feed Preparation

Feed oil is received, heated and conditioned before entering the crystallization section. Proper temperature stabilization is essential for repeatable crystal formation.

Controlled Cooling

Oil is cooled according to a defined temperature profile using heat exchangers, chilled water circuits and crystallizers with controlled agitation.

Crystal Maturation

The slurry is held under controlled conditions so crystals grow to a suitable size and structure before filtration.

Filtration

The crystallized slurry is transferred to the filter press where liquid olein passes through the filter cloth while solid stearin forms the filter cake.

Product Handling

Olein is collected in filtrate tanks, while stearin cake is discharged and melted or transferred for further processing, storage or packaging.

ANDRITZ Filter Press Integration

In industrial palm oil fractionation, filtration is one of the most critical parts of the plant. After controlled crystallization, the slurry must be separated into liquid olein and solid stearin with high efficiency and repeatability. Fanpod has experience in integrating industrial ANDRITZ filter press systems as part of a complete fractionation production line.

The referenced filtration package includes mechanical erection, alignment, process piping, utility connections, hydraulic systems, field cabling, junction boxes, PLC/SCADA integration and commissioning coordination. This demonstrates Fanpod’s capability to manage complex process equipment as an integrated industrial system rather than isolated machinery.

1500 × 1500 mm Filter press plate size for palm oil fractionation service
15 bar Operating pressure reference for filtration duty
2 Units High-capacity ANDRITZ filter press configuration
500 TPD Reference plant capacity for the filter press package
PLC/SCADA Automated operation with supervisory control interface
IP55 Panel RITTAL control panel for industrial environment
Technical note: The ANDRITZ filter press package includes process and utility interfaces such as filtrate oil, hot wash oil, filter cake discharge, steam, compressed air, nitrogen, water, drain and CIP return. This makes the filter press area a complete process island within the fractionation plant.
Filtration Cycle

Automated Filter Press Operating Sequence

The filter press sequence is managed through controlled mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and process operations. Each stage is important for cake formation, olein recovery, safe pressure handling and preparation for the next cycle.

Press Closing

The hydraulic system closes the filter plates and generates the required closing force to withstand filtration pressure and seal the chambers.

Filling

Crystallized slurry is pumped into the filter press chambers. The filling stage prepares the filter pack for pressure filtration.

Filtration

Liquid olein passes through the filter cloth while solid stearin crystals build up as cake inside the chambers.

Core Blowing

Compressed air is used to clear filtrate passages and the central core to improve recovery and prepare the system for discharge.

Cake Discharge

The press opens, plates are shifted and the stearin cake drops by gravity into the discharge area for melting or transfer.

Utilities and P&ID Interfaces

Process and Utility Connections

The filtration section requires coordinated utility connections to support heating, pneumatic operation, product recovery, washing, drainage and cleaning. Fanpod integrates these services into the process piping and automation design.
