Stainless Steel Bag Filters – ProBag® Series

An economical and efficient solution for high-flow liquid filtration. Designed for reliable solid particle removal with high dirt-holding capacity and easy maintenance.

Introduction to Podinox Bag Filters

The Workhorse of Industrial Filtration

Podinox ProBag® Series Bag Filters are a smart and proven choice for liquid filtration applications involving high flow rates and heavy contamination loads. Due to their simple design, low operating cost, and reliable performance, these systems are widely used across multiple industries including water and wastewater treatment, chemical processing, paint and resin production, as well as oil and gas operations.

Traditionally considered a basic solution for non-critical services, bag filtration has evolved significantly with modern filter media technologies such as nanofiber layers. Today, bag filters are capable of removing particles down to 1 micron with high efficiency.

Unlike cartridge filters, which are designed for fine polishing and final filtration, bag filters excel at removing coarse and bulk contaminants. Our housing design enables bag replacement in just a few minutes, minimizing downtime and maximizing process availability.

Bag Filter Housing

Housing Design & Construction Materials

Stainless Steel 304 & 316L

Our bag filter housings are manufactured from heavy-gauge stainless steel sheets, using SS304 for water and non-corrosive fluids, and SS316L for acids, aggressive chemicals, and pharmaceutical applications. All welds are executed and finished in accordance with ASME standards, and internal surfaces are polished to prevent product adhesion.

Inlet Design Options:

  • Top Entry: The fluid enters directly through the top cover into the bag. This configuration provides superior sealing and virtually eliminates bypass.
  • Side Entry: The fluid enters through the side nozzle and is directed into the bag. This design offers a lower overall height and is suitable for space-restricted installations, although cleaning access is slightly more limited.

Standard Housing Components

What Makes a Complete System

  • Restrainer Basket: Stainless steel perforated basket supporting the filter bag and preventing rupture under differential pressure.
  • Cover Locking Mechanism: Swing bolts or quick V-clamps for fast, safe opening and closing.
  • Displacement Balloon (Optional): Inserted inside the bag to reduce residual liquid volume and minimize product loss.
  • Magnetic Trap: Captures ferrous particles upstream, extending bag life.
  • Adjustable Support Legs: For precise leveling during installation.

PBH Series Housing – Technical Specifications

Housing Model Bag Size Bag Dimensions (inch) Filtration Area (m²) Max. Water Flow (m³/h)* Housing Volume (L)
PBH-01 Size 1 7" x 17" 0.25 20 18
PBH-02 Size 2 7" x 32" 0.50 40 35
PBH-03 Size 3 4" x 9" 0.09 6 5
PBH-04 Size 4 4" x 15" 0.15 12 8

* Flow rates are based on water at 1 cP viscosity. For viscous fluids (paint, resin, oils), larger housing sizes are recommended.

Filter Media Types & Chemical Compatibility

  • Needle Felt: Depth filtration structure with high dirt-holding capacity. Suitable for water, oils, and general-purpose fluids (PP, PE).
  • Mesh (NMO): Monofilament, washable structure for coarse particle removal and screening (Nylon).
  • Melt-Blown: Fine fibers for high efficiency and removal of fine or gelatinous particles.

Chemical Compatibility Guide

Media Material Acids Alkalis Solvents Max Temp (°C) Typical Applications
Polypropylene (PP) Excellent Excellent Moderate 90 Water, acids, food
Polyester (PE) Good Poor Good 150 Oils, solvents
Nylon (NMO) Poor Good Excellent 135 Paints, resins, solvents

Increasing Capacity & Reducing Operating Costs

  • Increase Number of Filters: Multi-bag housings or parallel installations (space and CAPEX intensive).
  • High-Capacity Bags: Thicker bags with higher void volume, extending service life 2–3 times.
  • Pleated Bags: Up to 65% more filtration area in the same housing size.
  • Multi-Stage Filtration: Series filtration with descending micron ratings to protect final filters.

Looking to Increase Filtration Capacity?

By using pleated bag filters, you can increase filtration area by up to 65% without replacing your existing housing.
